 "Growth through Cooperation and Continuity"

Hello, and welcome to the official website for Lions Clubs International District 105 NE.

Hopefully, all our visitors will find the information about our clubs and their activities interesting and informative.

This district is one of thirteen covering Great Britain and Ireland; it is second only to Ireland in size, covering all of Scotland and the North-East of England.

We have clubs as far north as Garioch near Aberdeen , and as far south as Filey in North Yorkshire.  We can also boast of clubs on the west coast of Scotland, including the islands of Mull and Islay.

As you can imagine, the communities WE SERVE are diverse in culture, affluence and size.

Our membership often reflects those communities - for example, we have clubs with as few as eight members and others with as many as forty.

All the clubs are very active in supporting their local communities by raising money for, or giving direct help to, those who are disadvantaged or in need.

Many also make significant contributions to national and international causes.

Lions Clubs International Foundation is our global charitable arm and has made major contributions to disaster relief, and recently raised more than $250 million to help eradicate avoidable blindness throughout the world.

In every club our members work with enthusiasm and commitment to “make the difference” in people’s lives and they like to have FUN while doing it, so a club social event can be as important as a fundraiser.

Our International President for this year is Eberhard J Wirfs and his theme is ‘Move to Grow’ which can be summarised as a Focus on Personal Growth and Membership Growth.
You can follow the link to find out more.

My theme is...

‘Growth through Cooperation and Continuity’.

I want us to work together more effectively at all levels, both within Lions and in partnership with other organisations.

We need to make sure that Lions clubs continue to be fit for purpose in their communities and that any changes necessary are made through a system of continuous review.

Leadership Seminar

I have been a Lions member for 30 years.  I can’t claim to have enjoyed every minute of it - even with great friends, it can be hard to stand in a supermarket car park in the middle of winter rattling a tin.  However, I can truthfully say that I feel proud to have been one small cog in a machine when I see the light in an older person’s eyes at a Christmas party or the joy on the face of a child presented with a special wheelchair.
Lions has, I think, helped me to be more aware of life’s injustices, and Lions has given me the opportunity to play a small part in relieving them.

I am indeed PROUD to be a member of Scarborough Lions Club in this fantastic District 105NE.

We are always looking for new members, or if, for some individuals, that isn’t possible immediately, why not give us a helping hand at events?

So, if you aren’t already a member, why not get in touch - there is a club near you!
