District Governor 105NE ~ 2010 - 2011

 "Caring through Service"

Hello, and welcome to the official website for Lions Clubs International District 105 NE.

Hopefully, all our visitors will find the information about our clubs and their activities interesting and informative.

This district is one of thirteen covering Great Britain and Ireland; it is second only to Ireland in size, covering all of Scotland and the North-East of England.

We have clubs as far north as Garioch near Aberdeen , and as far south as Filey in North Yorkshire.  We can also boast of clubs on the west coast of Scotland, including the island of Mull.

As you can imagine, the communities WE SERVE are diverse in culture, affluence and size.

Our membership often reflects those communities - for example, we have clubs with as few as eight members and others with as many as forty.

All the clubs are very active in supporting their local communities by raising money for, or giving direct help to, those who are disadvantaged or in need.

Many also make significant contributions to national and international causes.

Lions Clubs International Foundation is our global charitable arm and has made major contributions to disaster relief, and recently raised more than $250 million to help eradicate avoidable blindness throughout the world.

In every club our members work with enthusiasm and commitment to “make the difference” in people’s lives and they like to have FUN while doing it, so a club social event can be as important as a fundraiser.

Our International President for this year is President Scruggs, an experienced and effective leader with particular strength in leadership training, the mentoring of future leaders and membership development. Using as his presidential theme “A Beacon of Hope,” Scruggs will make service to others – the core principle of Lions clubs around the world – the focal point of his presidency.
You can follow the link to find out more.

My theme is...

‘Caring through Service’.

The focal point of this years theme is Service.

To shine our Light even brighter and strengthen our world wide network Lions have the opportunity to participate in four special service action campaigns

August 2010.-Engaging our Youth- Invite Leos  and youth in sevice to help organize and participate in a service project. (The scope is wide the opportunities are many).

October 2010. Sharing the Vision -Plan vision health projects work with the visually impaired, World Sight Day, Lions Spectacle Recycling boost  collection or related activity.

December/January 211 .  With the downturn in the global economy many relief organizations are finding it difficult to keep up with demand. Help alleviate hunger.

April 2011. Protect our Planet   Improve and protect the environment. Have or take part in a "Community Earth Day"  Clean up etc.

I see this as one of the strengths of Lions Clubs, by getting our act together with clubs supporting each other. " Alone we can do so little but together we can achieve so much".

Lions Clubs are all community based and it is in that community where the bulk of our service takes place.

All or any of the Lions clubs in District 105NE could be role models for strap line "Caring through Service" because we live in caring communities and it is in these communities where "we serve".

We geographically, have a reputation, which is second to none, for caring and for looking after the less advantaged amongst us. We care for the vulnerable in our local community as a matter of course, and, as members of Lions Clubs International, we care about the afflicted on a global scale by donating through LCIF.

It is because we care and because of the service that caring engenders  we are able to effect change for the better.

Lions come to the fore by giving service and meeting community needs because they care about their community and the people in it.

We know that some of the less advantaged fall through the net and our service activities reflect this but, we can encourage, we can show that we "Care through Service."

I am indeed PROUD to be a member of Peterlee & District Lions Club in this fantastic

District 105NE

We are always looking for new members, or if, for some individuals, that isn’t possible immediately, why not give us a helping hand at events?

So, if you aren’t already a member, why not get in touch - there is a club near you!
