North East England and Scotland | At the heart of your Community

Dunfermline & District Lions Club

We meet on the last Tuesday of the month in the King Malcolm Hotel in Dunfermline and there is only one meeting a month due to the size of the Club and the work commitments of one of our members. We will have three Business Meetings in the month and then have a Social Occasion in order to have a bit of fun and fellowship. We also attend functions within the Zone and meet the members of the other clubs in a social capacity.

Our Christmas Giving Tree Appeal

Our partnership working for the Marie Curie Daffodil Appeal.

We serve our local community through our work with the Community Councils and hope to strengthen this commitment in 2015. We work in partnership with Marie Curie Cancer Care during their Daffodil Appeal and also take part in the Diabetes UK Big Collection. We have worked with schools on the Peace Poster competition, hoping to increase this participation further in 2015, and have close links with one of the local high schools for Young Leaders In Service. We are working in the health field by promoting Message in a Bottle and distributing them to the GPs’ Surgeries in our area. We raise funds by holding bookstalls, bag-packing in local supermarkets and by having stalls at the local Galas. Our main event in the year is our Giving Tree Appeal which we operate in conjunction with the local Libraries, Social Work Offices and the two main locations for Fife Council employees. This is an extremely positive endeavour and we could not operate it without the continuing commitment of the staff and customers of the libraries, the Social Work staff and the Fife Council employees. Their generosity overwhelms us every year. The children who benefit from this are aged from birth to teens and we distribute the gifts via Women’s Aid and thelocal Social Work Offices with any leftovers going to Gingerbread. This means that we are covering the large geographical area of Fife.

Our tree planting

We support the Lions International Foundation’s programmes for sight and health, youth volunteer and environmental. As a Club we have a variety of opticians who provide us with used spectacles and hearing aids and we also have bins in some of our libraries which we empty regularly. We have planted trees in our local park as part of their re-generation programme and we donate a proportion of our funds to LCI Projects.

We are looking for new members to join us as volunteers in the work we do serving our community and would appreciate whatever time you could give us. Get in touch with us and come to one of our meetings. We promise not to bore you. Every penny we raise goes to whichever cause we are supporting. Our Secretary will be delighted to give you further information and can be contacted at  cathymscott@hotmail.com  We look forward to hearing from you.
