Peterlee & District Lions Club
Although, the site of Peterlee was a medieval settlement as far back as 900AD. Peterlee the town only reached maturity with the granting of parish status, and its resolution to become a town council with its own Mayor in 1974. Finally the Government administered, Development Corporation went out of existence on March 31st 1988 and Peterlee became a Town.
Called after Peter Lee, who rose from Parish to County Councillor and ultimately Chairman of Durham Miners Federation.
His vision was to see a better way of life for the Co. Durham mining community he whom he served.
Peterlee and District Lions Club” formed twenty nine years ago are part of “Lions Club International” which was recognised by the United Nations as the World`s no 1 NGO( non govermental organisation).
Peterlee and District Lions support and take an active part Carnivals, Fun days,and other festivities held in surrounding villagesWe are involved in many other fundraising ventures from Church Anniversary celebrations to the provision of lip reading teachers and subsiding training courses other supportive projects.
