Thirsk & Northallerton Lions Club

We have an excellent working partnership with the local scouts especially Barnes Explorer Scouts, and have awarded a number of Lions Young Leader in Service Awards to members of that organisation over the year

Thirsk and Northallerton Lions club is a small but friendly club who achieve a great deal. We hold a business meeting and a social event every month as being a Lion is all about friendship and fellowship.

When Lions started in 1917 they were formed with the intention of their members performing selfless service to their communities. The club endeavours to follow this ethos, and is keen to attract new members to help increase its achievements.

The club also has a dedicated group of Friends who are available to help us when it comes to our main events or projects. This group are invited to the second ‘social meeting’ of the month, although they do not have a vote on the running of the club.

Our bookstall at this year’s Bilsdale Show at the end of August attracted a cosmopolitan mix of potential customers

Between 1 July 2013 and 30 June 2014 we donated £1,600 to Lions International Charities to help in their work around the world. If you wish to see what the Lions as an International Organisation can achieve please take a look at their website. Taken together all the £1,600 can make a big difference. We also donated a further £3,000 to other causes, and through donating stalls in Northallerton Town Hall to other Charities they managed to raise a further £1,000.

Northallerton and District Lioness Club is a project of the club and increases the presence of the organisation in the area as they are a very active club.

During the year we have two peak months in June and December, when we have the two biggest events of the year. In June marshalling the Great Yorkshire Bike Ride and in December the Santa Sleigh runs around Northallerton.

We could write a lot more but for now it just remains to thank you for reading this short article. We hope you have found this interesting and may even wish to come an join us.
