Thirsk & Northallerton Lions Club

Thirsk and Northallerton Lions club is a small but friendly club who achieve a great deal. We hold a business meeting and a social event every month as being a Lion is all about friendship and fellowship.

When Lions started in 1917 they were formed with the intention of their members performing selfless service to their communities. The club endeavours to follow this ethos and is keen to attract new members to help increase its achievements.

The club also has a dedicated group of Friends who are available to help us when it comes to our main events or projects. This group are invited to the second meeting of the month on the last Wednesday.  This meeting usually takes the form of a quiz which is designed to raise funds for local Charities, or occasionally the club.

Lion President Margaret and Lion Andrea with the Bloodrun EVS Car after they had visited the July 2018 Lions Club meeting to give us a talk and receive a donation.

Between 1 July 2017 and 30 June 2018 we donated £1,000 to Lions International Charities to help in their work around the world. If you wish to see what the Lions as an International Organisation can achieve please take a look at their website. Taken together, all the £1,000 raised from all the clubs around the world, can make a big difference. We also donated a further £2,622 to other causes. The President for 2017 2018 Lion John Forrest will be donating a further £1,000 to his nominated causes but they will show in the 208 2019 accounts.

On 1 July 2018 we welcomed our first ever Lady president, Lion Margaret, who will lead the club through the next two years.

During the year we have two peak months in June and December, when we have the two biggest events of the year. In June marshalling the Great Yorkshire Bike Ride and in December the Santa Sleigh runs around Northallerton. We appreciate the help that the Barnes Explorer Scouts give us on these occasions and we make sure that they receive a donation for their help.
