Thirsk

A Market Town situated in the heart of the fertile Vale of Mowbray.

Thirsk was the home of the Veterinary Surgeon James Herriot who wrote about rural life in the Dales, and his old Surgery in Thirsk has now been converted into a Visitor Centre for all to enjoy. The name THIRSK is from the Viking word THRAESK meaning 'lake or fen'

Northallerton

The administrative centre of England's largest, most varied and loveliest county - North Yorkshire. Built on the site of an old Roman Signal Station, it is a town with a proud and long history. In 1138 the English defeated the Scots at The Battle of The Standard just North of the town.

Northallerton was an important post in stage coach days and a stop on the busy London to Scotland main railway line. It's close proximity to the A1 and A19 roads makes it a natural centre for the modern traveler. The area surrounding both Thirsk & Northallerton is blessed with beautiful countryside, historic houses, preserved ruined abbeys, internationally renowned craftsmen such as, The Mouseman of Kilburn, and Treske. There are also many excellent regional food producers, all helping to make a visit to this part of Yorkshire all the more memorable
