City of Durham Lions Club

Durham, one of the most visually exciting   cities in Britain. Durham, with its magnificent Norman Cathedral, founded as a shrine for the body of St. Cuthbert.

Durham, with its Castle built for the incumbent Prince-Bishop, responsible for defence as well as the cure of souls.  The Cathedral and the Castle standing proudly on a sandstone bluff, almost enclosed, as by a moat, in a steep-banked, wooded bend of the river Wear. And Durham, home of the City of Durham Lions Club, part of District 105NE which is part of Multiple District 105 of Lions Clubs International, the largest Service organisation in the world.

So, what do members of Durham City Lions Club do?

Briefly, we are a charitable organisation and our aims are to help less fortunate members of the community, locally, and world-wide. Our main welfare projects aim to help eliminate blindness in the world.  We have recently donated a Tele-sensory low vision reading machine to the Durham Library; we send computers to Hungary to help visually and hearing impaired students learn to speak and read English. We donated 20 ink jet printers to the Trinity School in Durham, and donated to Riding for the Disabled.
