Durham Lions In Action

Members have donated playground equipment in Rainton, provided trips for handicapped youth, and provided text phones for the hearing impaired at Durham Library.

Our activities include our Women's Golf Tournament in May at the Elemore Golf Club in Hetton-le-hole, our Men's Golf Tournament in September at Houghton-le-Spring Golf Club, our Thanksgiving Dinner each November, Indian evenings each May, a Medieval Festival each July and our Hippo Raffle each December.

Recent City of Durham Lions club member, Lawrence Laird, (far right) is coach of the Durham Saints Base Ball team. Members of the team are pictured at Scarborough Beach, with Coach Larry being interviewed by Tyne Tees Television.

English Base Ball originated in Scarborough in late1800! Lion Larry is also Head Basket Ball Coach to Durham University.

The City of Durham Lions Club was one of the first District 105NE clubs to appear on the World Wide Web, and the club plans to capitalise on the benefits of the Internet. We have recently obtained some new members.

Who knows? It may have been because of our Web presence!

Incidentally, we’re always looking for more new members, male or female,

so why not get in touch with us for more information?
