Lions Clubs International ~ Mission Statement
"To create and foster a spirit of understanding among all people for
humanitarian needs by providing voluntary services through community involvement and international cooperation."
- Who can be a Lion ....?
- Although membership is by invitation, most Clubs welcome community minded people. Membership is open to men and women of legal majority and good reputation.
- The majority of Lions Clubs include men and women of all ages and from all walks of life. The main criteria to become a Lion is to follow Lions Clubs International Objects & Ethics and a willingness to help others.
- Within our organisation there are also Leo Clubs for 18 to 25 years though many Lions Clubs have members from 18 years and upwards.
- While each Lions Club gives priority to the needs of its local community the association is truly international with no religious or political affiliations of any description.
- In some communities there may be Clubs whose members due to language and cultural customs are predominately from ethnic groups including China, India, Poland and Pakistan.
- Where can I find my nearest Lions Club ....?
- Our District, known as 105NE covers the north east coast of England from Filey and all Scotland.
- Please contact your nearest local Lions Club by viewing the Lions Club locator.
- Should you be unable to find a Club near you, please email your details and our District Membership Officer will contact you direct. Should you reside outside our District we will contact an Officer in the District covering your area.
- What time will I be required to give as a Lion .... ?
- We serve in any way we can, and to the best of our ability, to what we see to be the needs of the community in which we live, in whatever form it appears necessary, and to whatever extent our resources of time and money permit.
- There is no set rule as to how much time should be given. It is expected that a member will attend as many regularly scheduled meetings as possible. It certainly is our goal to have every member achieve 100% attendance for these meetings, but since that may be impossible, make-ups can be attained working on our projects, attending training sessions or even by visitations to fellow Lions Clubs. At no time will you have to give more time than you can afford.
- When and where do Lions Clubs meet .... ?
- Clubs meet at least twice a month and elect officers annually. Many Clubs still hold Board of Directors' meetings which are held monthly to determine the course of club business. If a member chooses there is ample opportunity to attend various fundraising functions and social activities throughout the year.
- How can I obtain more details about Lions Clubs and visiting a Club....?
- Email Us: Include your home town and (should you wish) a telephone contact number and details of any further information you may require.
- Contact a Lions Club: View the Lions Club locator and find your nearest local Club.
- Should you find there isn't a Lions Club near you, please do not let that put you off, we will be happy to discuss how we can help and how you can still get involved in your own community.
