LCIF - Lions Clubs International Foundation

LCIF is the grant making arm of Lions Clubs International, its primary function is to direct international humanitarian works on behalf of Lions Clubs around the world. However it does not receive any money from the annual Lions dues and instead relies totally on donations. Donations come from four main sources:
- Melvin Jones Fellowships, whereby for a donation of $1000 a person can be recognised for their efforts on behalf of Lions Clubs International. There were nine MJFs awarded in 105NE during the Lions year
- Personal Contributing Membership (PCM), by the end of the year we had six 100% clubs, Dalbeattie, Dunfermline, Middlesborough Teesside, Mid-Tyne, Peterlee and Washington. Together with individual memberships, we had a total of 68 PCM's.
- Undesignated donations, A total of £1310 was donated to the various LCIF programmes in the year compared with £5385 in 2004-2005, a disappointment but much of the efforts of clubs were directed to Campaign SightFirst (see below).
- Designated donations, Contributions over the past year have included £2100 to the Hurricane Katrina Appeal, £5025 to the Pakistani Earthquake Appeal and £3195 to the SE Asia Tsunami Appeal.
The cost of administering the Fund are not taken from donations but are paid out of the interest from investment income, thus all donations go to humanitarian work.
During the Lions year 2005-2006 the Foundation received a total of $41million and made 536 grants totalling $38.5million (approx £20million).
In addition to grants for specific projects over $5m was donated to relief from Hurricane Katrina and $15m to relief from the SE Asian Tsunami.
In July 2005 Campaign SightFirst II (CSFII) was launched to follow-on from the very successful original Campaign SightFirst. The aim of CSFII is to raise $150m, with a further $50m challenge target, to help eradicate preventable and curable blindness. The efforts made by clubs to support this are reported separately.
