Young Leaders In Service
Young Leaders in Service is a very successful programme and provides a great opportunity for Clubs to recognise the work of young people in their local communities. We now need more Clubs to be involved in order to meet our Centennial Challenge as a District. The District would like to see Leo Clubs actively involved in the programme.
The awards recognise young people who provide significant levels of service to their community during a twelve month period. The Silver Seal Award is for those with at least 50 hours of service and the Gold Seal, for 100 hours of service during the year. Note it must be a full year to qualify for the award. There is also a Bronze Award for 25 hours which is aimed at those with Learning Difficulties or Special Needs.
Young people between the ages of 11 and 18 (school years 7-13) are eligible to participate in the YLIS awards. Each young person is provided with a booklet in which they log service activities.
Clubs can work closely with Scouts/Guides as a way of building partnerships and this can be extended to schools, youth clubs and young carers. Contact your District Officer for further details. Leaflets and Log Books can be ordered direct from MDHQ.

The young leader can chose either to receive the new pin or a cloth badge at the completion of their 12 months service. The YLiS pin or cloth badge will be sent to the young leaders with their certificate.
Please note the cloth badge (7.5cm) is larger than the metal pin (3cm). Pin on the right – cloth badge on the left.
