Morpeth Lions entertain the elderly
The Lions’ annual Christmas Party for senior residents of Morpeth took place again at the Riverside Lodge. Around 150 senior citizens attended and were treated to live entertainment, bingo and tea. The guests were joined by the Mayor, Cllr Alison Byard who made a point of circulating round to chat with the guests and joining in the carol singing. Entertainment was supplied by the band “Just Us” with a repertoire of Christmas songs and carols and by young singer, Lewis, who got the guests tapping their feet or in some cases dancing.
Lion President, Ian Brown, thanked all those for making the afternoon a success. Those thanked included Liz and Bill Durning of the Riverside for providing the room, crockery and staff, the entertainers Just Us and Lewis, the Guides for helping serve tea, the Red Cross, the Lions Wives and Partners for providing the food and the Mayor, Alison Byard. Ian said “It has been a magnificent effort by all concerned and in particular by event organiser Lion Margaret Trewick, by Joy Offord and Anne Gray for organising the food and by Les Sage for compering the afternoon.” The Mayor, Cllr Alison Byard, joined Ian on stage and gave a warm tribute to the Lions and the work they do in the town. .
As the guests left the concert room, there were a lot of happy faces and much thanks to the Lions. Most were already looking forward to next year.
