Stranraer & District Lions Club
Who We Are

Stranraer Lions are part of District 105NE of Multiple District 105 of Lions Clubs International, the largest Service organisation in the world.
Our Lions Club was formed by Machars Lions Club with the first meeting held on 2nd July 1991. On 4th November 1991, after a few more meetings the group reached the minimum 20 potential members to form a Chartered Lions Club.
PDG Lion Bill Walker conducted the formalities in his then role of District 105NE Extension Officer supported by Lion President, Christy Steele, Machars Lions Club. The first Club President being Lion Stewart Aitkinson.
On the 16th December 1991 the Club was finally Chartered as Stranraer & District Lions club, becoming the 26th Club in Scotland and club 901 in UK. The Charter evening was conducted by Regional Chairman, Iain Anderson and Zone Chairman Marshall Swalwell.

On 27th March 1992 we held our first Charter Dinner when Lion President Stewart accepted the Charter Roll on behalf of the members from District Governor, Don Wilkinson.
In February 1993 the first lady member was nominated and Lion Alice McWhir was inducted into the Club. Since then the Club has been delighted to receive a further seven lady members.
Stranraer & District are now twinned with Fleetwood & Cleveleys Lions Club in District 105BN. Since the formation of the Club many friendships have been formed by our regular visits to other Lions Clubs.
On 10th - 12th December 1999 the Stranraer Lions along with Machars Lions hosted District 105NE's annual Convention. A great experience and a great weekend by all who took part.
